There are very few exceptions when you're going to be sending out invitations when you don't want them to elicit a favorable response, i.e. get people to come to your event. So you want them to be more than simply an announcement of an upcoming event, you want invitations that are truly unique, the kind that will capture the attention of those you're inviting and motivate them to want to attend your party, or whatever it is that you have planned.
Another thing to keep in mind regarding invitations is that they are about more than just getting people to the party. Sometimes it wouldn't take much to accomplish that. You want your invitees to be excited about the upcoming event, to look forward to it with much enthusiasm. You want them to clear their schedules to make it, if they have to.
The right invitations can have a real impact on that.
